I made some signature favour bags, a custom banner, custom chocolate bar wrappers and some cookie toppers.

SWEET TREATS TABLE

Our sweets table included:
- toasted marshmallows in doiley baskets;
- birds’ nests (fried noodles in chocolate with sugared almond “eggs” – although I would obviously recommend that you use something different for young guests);
- toadstool and butterfly shaped fairy bread;
- toadstool pops (marshmallows, white chocolate with pink colouring and white sprinkles);
- pink, green and ivory meringues.

The beautiful cookie wands, butterfly cookies and cupcakes were specially created by our friends from DOUBLE DELIGHT.

They looked amazing and tasted even better.

FAVOR TABLE

Our favour table was adorned with:
- personlised colouring books and stick pencils;
- mini packets of fairy floss;
- mint leaves and toadstool sweets in milk bottles;
- pink lemonade in mini milk bottles;
- little jars of fairy dust;
- ribbon wands; and
- our signature favor bags.

The large toadstools are made from coconut fibre liners, green and pink paint, white felt and white card.

KIDS TABLE

The divine miniature kids’ tables and coordinating chairs were supplied by the lovely Georgia from website for hire details.

CHECK-IN COUNTER

At the entrance to the party we created a check-in counter (using an old box, some wood-effect contact, and dowels from the hardware store). 

We also created a “wall” for guests to collect their engineers hats and scarves.  We used temporary hooks on a large piece of kraft card.

BEVERAGE TABLE

The backdrop was created using iron on transfers and LOTS of glitter!

The soda crate we created ourselves, as authentic vintage crates tend to be pricey in Australia (for US readers , you can find plenty of reasonably priced options on eBay or similar).   We painted a plain wooden hamper box, lined it with wrapping paper and created the labels in photoshop, printed on translucent paper and applied with double sided tape – not a permanent look, but fine for a party and allows you to use the box for other things afterwards.

MAIN TABLE

The main table held both sweet and savoury snacks for all our guests. 

Savoury items were arranged in a “train” using painted wooden hamper boxes.  The “engine”, at the front, was arranged with popcorn cones (steam) and the “carriages” were filled with quiches, pies and sausage rolls respectively.  I am a bit addicted to mini tongs at the moment, so we had plenty of those on hand for serving.  We also served up some mini toasted ham and cheese bagels which look like wheels and taste great.

On the sweet side, we served:

- rice treats cut into locomative shapes, dipped in white chocolate and sprinkled with blue and red sprinkles;

- fairy bread, again cut into trains and also stars and made with silver, blue and red sprinkles;

- muesli bars, wrapped in custom ticket-design wrappers;

- sultanas, wrapped in gingham wrapping paper and finished with a custom label;

- fruit; and

- individual banana breads in gingham liners and topped with custom toppers,

Cupcakes and cookies created especially by our friends at DOUBLE DELIGHT.

They looked amazing and tasted even better.

FAVOR TABLE

We had lots of fun creating our favor table!

The table was adorned with: jars of giant red jaffas and a blue and white smartie mix, old-fashioned choo choo bars, Chugga Chews cookies (from the US), custom colouring book favours, train stickers, train whistles, and red lantern and locomotive pencil sharpeners. 

As much as I love an elaborate lolly buffet, in my experience, lots of lovely lollies end up going to waste and parents tend to be understandably reluctant to give their kids loads of sweets, so creatvie and non-edible favors are always appreciated!

Our I LOVE PARTIES signature favor bags with vintage train tags were displayed in a gorgeous old travel case that my mum bought at an antique market years ago.

KIDS TABLE

The divine miniature kids’ tables and coordinating chairs were supplied by the lovely Georgia from MUNCHKIN TABLES.  Georgia is based in Sydney and she hires out these custom-made tables and chairs plus a wide range of party decor – see her website for hire details.

I created railroad crossing signs as centrepieces on photoshop, using floral foam as a stand.

The table runner and party plates/napkins are in our SHOP now.

WE HEART CAKE

And no party is complete without a cake…and we had two!  Here was my attempt.  I bought the locomotive cake topper from Etsy and created the rail sign toppers on photoshop.  The little model trees I bought on eBay.

Medium milk bottles (although, we sold out of stock as soon as they arrived, so we are just awaiting some new stock)

We have also snapped up some stock of these beautifiul little French vintage apothocary style jars with screw tops. They can be filled with small lollies for perfect party or wedding favours. I just love the shape of these.

Mini hot dog trays – these are adorable and they are the perfect size for mini hot dogs made from the bake-at-home rolls you can pick up from Woolworths or Coles.

Snap it up while you can I say!

Well, it has been a long time coming, but Wills and Kate are finally tying the knot in what is sure to be an elaborate ceremony on April 29. A good friend of mine is hosting a Royal Wedding Party, which I think is a fabulous idea.

For those of you hosting (or thinking about hosting) your own Royal Wedding Party here are some of my tips and suggestions…

For those of you not already aware, Kate’s mum owns her own very successful party supply business in the UK – see partypieces.co.uk. So what could be a better talking point for your party than ordering your party supplies from the bride’s mum!

Party Pieces also happens to stock my favourite party setting for a Royal Wedding Party – the British Street Party set, some of which is pictured below. How cute are the napkins! The same range is available at quite a few different online stores, and if you have left your run too late to get it shipped from the UK, Lark Handmade stock it here in Australia.

Google “britannia” and you will find lots of Union Jack themed party gear, like these retro party poppers.

Meri Meri make these very cute cupcake liner and topper packs – available via lots of online stores.

I am generally pretty anti-tacky party supplies, but I spotted this lifesize cutout – which is clearly a must have at any royal wedding party, although I’m certain shipping would cost more than the cutout itself!

As for food, think anything with Her Majesties royal endorsement…

For something more substantial try Scotch Eggs, cornish pasties, homemade pies, sausages, sausages…or sausages1 If you go with meat cooked in the least appetising way imaginable you are probably on the right track!

For sweets, there are actually lots of traditional English sweets that I love. In particular, trifle is easy to mke and (almost) always a crowd pleaser. Or a simple sponge cake is lovely for a daytime affair.

If you have some Wedgewood pieces stored away, now is the time to set them free. See also these gorgeous Wedgewood inspired cookiees and cakes.

Serve up refreshing pimms and lemonade/ginger beer with slices of lemon cucumber strwberries etc and Bollinger champagne (if you have a royal sized budget).
